Biography of Archbishop Dr. Jean Victoria WilsonArchbishop Dr. Jean Victoria Wilson, a native of Mt. Vernon, New York, is the sixth of nine children born to the late Matthew and Victoria Middleton. She is the devoted mother of Cynthia W. Ushry, proud grandmother to Sheldon Body Jr. and Matthew A. Ushry, and great-grandmother to Rayna A. Body and Brooklyn Body.
Education & Theological Training Archbishop Wilson began her academic journey at Savannah State University in Savannah, Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Education. She later pursued theological studies at Gammon Theological Seminary, part of the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia, where she received her Master of Divinity in 1992, with a concentration in the Psychology of Pastoral Care. In 2002, she earned her Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, specializing in “The Minister as Spiritual Director.”
Ministerial Journey Her ministry began in 1966 within the Fire Baptized Holiness Church (FBH), where she was ordained in November 1980. A year later, she was appointed Pastor of New Solomon Temple FBH in Atlanta, serving faithfully from 1981 to 1991. In 1991, she transitioned to the United Methodist Church, serving in various pastoral roles until 1998.
In June 1998, she became the Senior Pastor of Asbury Mt. Olive UMC in Topeka, Kansas. In 2002, she made history as the first African American Associate Pastor at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana—a 5,400-member, predominantly Caucasian congregation. Three years later, she became Senior Pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana, until her retirement in June 2010. Apostolic Leadership & Global Reach In April 2011, Archbishop Wilson joined Light of the World Christian Tabernacle, where she served as Area Pastor until her consecration as Bishop in 2013. That same year, she founded Cornerstone Fellowship International in Atlanta—a covering fellowship for churches and para-ministries. She also established Grace Institute, a training ministry that equips, affirms, and ordains individuals in the five-fold ministry.
On November 5, 2022, she was consecrated to the office of Archbishop in Decatur, Georgia. Since 2018, she has ordained over 150 individuals across the United States and Africa, andcurrently maintains an active ministry presence in several regions of Africa and Pakistan.
